2022 Intern Interview - Joe Moore

The following represents a Q & A with My-Take’s Intern Analyst, Joe Moore. Joe is a rising senior at The University of New Hampshire, majoring in Business Administration, Marketing, and Information Systems Business Analytics. In this Q & A we will discuss with Joe his experience interning at My-Take.

What sparked your interest in interning at My-Take?

I had taken a class called Market Research that I liked a lot, and as I looked for opportunities in Market Analytics, I found this internship. It looked like a good organization and the position looked very similar to what my interests were. I wanted to learn more about how consumers guide business decisions, and this internship looked like a perfect opportunity for that.

What are your 3 biggest takeaways from interning at My-Take?

Communication:

Asking questions and talking to those who are more experienced than you is the best way to learn. Prior to this internship I tended to try and learn everything on my own, but I have now learned that the more you communicate, the more you can learn. Communication is key to keeping a business and team running, so understanding that has been great for transitioning into the business world.

Diversify:

Trying new things and learning many different aspects of the company is a valuable takeaway I have gotten from this internship. Taking on different projects and challenges is important. Even if I was not fully confident in something I was starting, I took the project/role and learned more about it by asking questions and talking to others. This has allowed me to develop many great skills at My-Take which I will be able to use heading into the future.

Understanding the business world:

Having never been introduced into the business world, this internship at My-Take gave me the foundation of how businesses are operated, and what to do when in a business. I learned how meetings were run, how employees email each other, as well as what it takes to have a successful and functioning team. Getting to see and learn about these things first-hand has been a great experience.

What was the best piece of advice you got while working here?

The best piece of advice was regarding organizing a large template I had been working on. When I went over the template with some team members, they gave me a lot of great advice about how to use font, heading, creating categories, and writing objectives for each category to make the template more user-friendly and easier to understand for people who were going to use it. This advice was valuable to make the template easy to use and understand.

What have you found most rewarding from your internship at My-Take?

Being able to see the work that I am doing reach the clients and community members, is rewarding. It is always nice to see the work that you do is being put to use and is valuable to the company.

Are there any skills or lessons you’ve learned that could be applicable outside of market research online communities?

I have learned a lot about how to communicate in the business world, whether that is face to face, or over email. I have learned how to talk to clients and how to make sure they are satisfied with the work that is being put out. Getting all the basic skills needed to work at every business has been very important.

What has been unique about working at My-Take?

This is my first true internship experience, but I think My-Take is unique because of the people. Everyone is so eager to help and give opportunities for me to learn new things. I have been able to sit in on meetings, and truly see how the company runs effectively. It has allowed me to be able to work with many aspects of the company and do a lot of different things. Being able to do work that is being sent to clients and have a tangible effect on the company is great and unique.

What are you looking forward to in your upcoming semester?

Going into next semester, I look forward to enhancing my knowledge in the analytics space in the classroom and continuing to work with My-Take to get more familiar with the company. I am excited about taking on more projects and to help My-Take in any way that I can. The internship has been great, and I look forward to continuing it further.
