The following represents a Q & A with My-Take’s Intern Analyst, Meghan Smith. Meghan is a rising senior at Providence College, majoring in Marketing. In this Q & A we will discuss with Meghan her experience interning at My-Take.
What sparked your interest in interning at My-Take?
Being a marketing intern and sociology minor I have had the privilege of taking several market research and social research classes at the beginning of my college experience. I have always had a curiosity about data analytics and began to search for internships in that field. What I really liked about My-Take is their online insight communities and their clientele that spans several industries.
What are your 3 biggest takeaways from interning at My-Take?
Practice makes perfect: Interning at My-Take has taught me that any skill can be mastered if you put in the hours. I remember when I first started coding last year, now I can code in half the time and it comes as second nature.
Take a step back: Working with data all the time, it can be easy to get lost in the numbers. Taking a break and working on something more qualitative for even a half hour gives me a new set of eyes when revisiting the data.
Remote collaboration: During the continuous times of Covid, My-Take has shown that a remote/hybrid workplace can still be highly collaborative (something I appreciate most).
What was the best piece of advice you got while working here?
The best piece of advice I received was given to me at the very beginning of my journey at My-Take. They advised me to stay curious about every aspect of the process. Although my tasks were concentrated on one step, asking questions about the bigger picture helped me understand the overall market research process.
What have you found the most rewarding from your internship at My-Take?
Having the opportunity to intern at My-Take for the past two years, has provided me a unique chance to grow within the company during a short time. I find it most rewarding to have worked on projects that I never would have played a role in during my first year.
Are there any skills or lessons you’ve learned that could be applicable outside of market research online communities?
The main skill I took away is confidence in the workplace and in my abilities. I think in any industry confidence is key in all roles because it enhances communication and opens doors.
What has been unique about working at My-Take?
Although I have had no corporate work experience prior to joining My-Take, I have had many jobs where I have observed workplace culture. What is different about My-Take’s culture is there is an established level of respect for each colleagues’ abilities. The level of collaboration is high and effective because each employee trusts each other.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming semester?
I am looking forward to experiencing my last year of college, learning as much as possible in the little time I have left, and of course making more lifelong memories.
